The first Cheffins’ collective sale of 2026 saw a massive 3,500 lots go under the hammer including vintage tractors, cars, motorbikes and collectors’ items on 24th and 25th April. The sale grossed £2.4 million as bidders from throughout the UK, Europe, New Zealand, USA and Canada helped to push up prices for tractors, classic cars and ephemera.
Of the 400 classic and vintage tractors consigned from collectors nationwide, a 1962 Matbro Mastiff achieved the highest price when it sold for £68,608 to a buyer from Cheshire. One of only six remaining original examples it was bought from the Cheffins Machinery Sale in the early 1980s for £325. Other highlights included a 1987 Ford TW-35 which achieved £61,004 and a 1996 Massey Ferguson 399 with only 2,800 hours which sold for £48,240.
Cheffins also continues to make its mark on the classic car market, with a BMW E30 3-series convertible which was consigned from a deceased estate achieving over four-times its presale estimate and selling for £16,688 to a collector from Shropshire. In addition, a Yamaha FZR750R motorcycle sold for £10,976 and amongst the large automobilia section, an Associated Motorways enamel sign fetched £6,720.
Tom Godsmark, Director at Cheffins said:
“It was fantastic to launch the vintage season with such a strong sale. We welcomed thousands of buyers over the two days and saw exceptional results across every category, with standout prices achieved for the very best examples.”
“The remarkable growth in values for classic and vintage tractors was clearly demonstrated by the Matbro Mastiff, which sold well above expectations. The sector remains highly competitive, with collectors from around the world seeking the finest machines. The increase in value from £325 forty years ago to more than £68,000 today highlights the long-term investment potential of this niche market.”
“We are also continuing to make significant progress in the classic car market. As a compelling alternative to other auction houses, Cheffins is proving its ability to achieve strong results for vehicles from both early and modern eras. We were particularly pleased to welcome a number of new buyers in the car market to the saleground.”
“The atmosphere across the weekend was vibrant, with a real sense of anticipation as both seasoned and new collectors prepared for the upcoming rally season.”
The next vintage collective sale at Cheffins will take place on the 17th and 18th of July, while a series of onsite sales in the meantime will offer vintage items. To view the calendar of sales at Cheffins, please click here
